The painting and decorating industry received a bit of a boost recently as the battle for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy was staged at Wembley arena. Almost 1000 painters and decorators were invited to watch the match courtesy of Johnstone’s, and were part of the 72,315 strong crowd who were treated to an exciting final between Bristol City and Walsall.
Johnstone’s have been sponsoring the tournament for the last nine seasons which, this year, saw the second highest attendance in the history of the sponsorship, with only the 2010 final attracting a larger crowd. Of course, the match was also seen by millions who tuned into the Sky coverage to watch Bristol City finally triumph over Walsall to lift the coveted trophy.
The whole event made sure that the Johnstone’s brand was firmly in the spotlight, plus the decorating industry as a whole received a welcome boost from the exposure. Of course, the painters and decorators who were lucky enough to receive an invite were treated to a day to remember, including a slap up meal in the Bobby Moore Suite, which was bedecked in golden balloons to celebrate Johnstone’s 125th anniversary as a paint manufacturer. Plus 14 of Johnstone’s Trade employees and two winners of a charity auction were given the chance to take part in the Johnston’s Sixes on the Wembley pitch an hour before the final got underway.
